Multiplication can be a very difficult concept to grasp. As your student practices it will get easier and easier. In time their confidence will grow and they will be inspired to learn new concepts. Multiplication is one of the most challenging concepts that students will learn in elementary school. It takes patience and time to fully master the times tables. Remember to have fun and use counters, math games, and times table tricks.
Multiplication is simply fast addition. If your student can add, they can multiply! Try to use counters and pictures when first introducing multiplication. This will help your student understand the concept of multiplication.
Creating equal groups with counters is a fun way to learn the times tables. Use marshmallows or popcorn to create equal groups and answer multiplication questions.
